British ski instructor Val Thorens
Val Thorens is one of Europe's best ski resorts. Founded in 1971, when the first two draglifts opened, it's the highest resort in Europe. It often has some of the best snow in the Alps.
The ski area caters to all levels of skiers, with an extensive beginners' area, and kilometres of varied pistes for intermediates and experts. If you ever want to go further afield, you can ski the other valleys that make up the 3 Valleys ski area - Méribel and Courchevel. A number of charming off piste itineraries are accessible from Val Thorens's lifts.
The lifts are fast and modern, as the resort regularly invests in upgrading and renewing them. In summer 2018, two new pistes are being created, plus a zip wire back to resort - see what's new in Val Thorens for winter 2018-19.
